The Following is to be used as a guide only. Each school will decide how they want to implement ELLI based on the needs of their students.
ELLI is a project that we are all growing together ensuring that it meets the needs of the participants and is relevant for their contexts.
ELLI training occured April 20th at Palmerston High School and April 21st at Kormilda College.
The training provided the opportunity to explore the online ELLI tool as well as the culture, application and pedagogy for using this tool. So there are effectively 2 parts - unpacking the tool itself and using it and then the application of it within a framework of inquiry based learning (the 8 steps model). Opportunities for planning how to introduce and use the tool were built into the training so teachers could consider their own context and decide how they might like to use it.
Phase 1 of ELLI - term 2 will involve introducing the learning power dimensions and unpacking them with students - shared language, visual representations, y charts etc and then students completing the online inventory. How it is introduced is crucial as students need to feel ownership, therefore it needs to be embedded in the culture of the classroom / school. Teachers will receive spider graph feedback on individual students as well as a whole class picture. Information provided by the ELLI data provides teachers with the opportunity to incorporate specific strategies for student groups into their teaching and learning plans for semester 2 . Your leading role is about ongoing supportive conversations with participating teachers around the 7 dimensions of learning power, the planning for introducing and using the tool, as well as ongoing reflective conversations.
Phase 2 of ELLI - beginning of semester 2, 2009 involves the application of the data in negotiated classroom based individual learning projects, implemented through the 8 step model of inquiry based learning (personally meaningful context). Some examples (UK) of ELLI ...http://www.vitalhub.net/rs_reports.htm Here at the reports showcase you can read some case studies - the learning agents, the learning engineers might be a good place to start. We will be adding examples from Darwin schools to this space soon.
